A Victoria resident became $1 million richer after he won BC’s largest Keno win in history last month.
On February 22th, David Campbell says he will never forget the wake-up call he received when he found out he had won a $1 million prize playing Keno from the previous day’s draw.
Campbell’s win marks the largest Keno prize ever won in British Columbia.
He says he had been enjoying a few games of Keno online, via PlayNow.com on the evening of February 21st.
Campbell recalls he decided to go to bed before checking to see if he had won, when lo and behold, the next morning he discovered that he matched all ten numbers and the 5x ‘Keno Bonus’ from one of the draws.
“When I saw the million-dollar win my first thought was, ‘I need a new computer,’” Campbell recalled.
“Then I thought maybe someone was punking me!”
Once he had gotten over his initial excitement at winning, and the news started to settle in as reality, Campbell decided his first call would be to his best friend.
“He said, ‘Yeah right,’” exclaimed Campbell, as he described his friend’s disbelief.
Now, Campbell plans to use this prize money to help those around him, while treating himself to some travel and buying a new computer.
“I have a handful of grateful people around me and plan to celebrate helping those people,” he said.
“It really hasn’t sunk in,” said Campbell on his new-found status as a millionaire.
“I’m shocked and in disbelief!”
According to the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC), last year BC lottery players collectively won more than $247 million in winnings from Keno.
How Keno works is, players purchase Keno tickets at locations which sell them, or online at PlayNow.com.
Every draw offers the chance to win up to $200,000 and players can add ‘Keno Bonus’ to their ticket to multiply their potential winnings by 1.5x, 2x, 5x, 7x or 10x.
To check their winnings, players can use the BCLC Lotto! app.
