Liquidation sales begin at all three Hudson’s Bay locations on Vancouver Island

The liquidation process has officially begun at all three Hudson’s Bay locations on Vancouver Island as the historic retailer prepares to shut its doors for good in the region.

Canada’s oldest company began holding liquidation sales across most of its stores this morning, including the Mayfair Shopping Centre and Bay Centre locations in Victoria, and the Woodgrove Centre store in Nanaimo.

In total, all but six Hudson’s Bay stores across Canada are taking part in the sales, which are expected to continue until June 15th.

The six stores not included in the liquidation include the company’s flagship store on Yonge Street in Toronto, along with select locations in Ontario and Quebec.

Gift cards will be honoured until April 6th, but shoppers will not be able to redeem Hudson’s Bay Rewards loyalty points during the liquidation period.

The company filed for creditor protection earlier this month, citing ongoing financial challenges tied to declining consumer spending, reduced foot traffic in downtown cores, and international trade tensions between Canada and the United States.

Hudson’s Bay has operated in Canada for more than 350 years, but the closure of its Island locations marks the end of an era for shoppers on Vancouver Island.
