Dashcam footage has surfaced showing the moment a car lost control causing a serious multi-vehicle crash on Trans Canada Highway near View Royal.
On the afternoon of March 12th, a serious crash occurred on the Trans Canada Highway near Thetis Lake, causing significant traffic disruptions and sending multiple drivers to the hospital, two in which were in critical condition.
At approximately 4:05 p.m., a vehicle travelling southbound on the highway near the 6 Mile Road exit appeared to lose control or hydroplane, causing it to veer across the median into oncoming northbound traffic.
The vehicle collided with a northbound car, which in turn, ricocheted into two other vehicles. The impact was substantial, leaving one vehicle off the road and in the grass median between the north and southbound lanes.
The crash, involving two pickup trucks and two sedans, caused significant damage to all vehicles and prompted a shutdown of both sides of the highway.
BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) dispatched four ambulances, including two staffed with primary care paramedics and two with advanced care paramedics, to attend to those injured.
Witnesses on the scene reported seeing the sedan sliding sideways at a high rate of speed before the collision occurred.
A dashcam video posted to social media shows a truck travelling northbound near View Royal when a vehicle can be seen in the southbound lane, sliding uncontrollably into the median. The footage cuts off shortly after, just before the collision happens.

The crash left two drivers in critical condition, while the other two suffered non life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.
The highway was closed for about an hour before the southbound lanes reopened, but the northbound lanes remained shut down well into the evening while police and emergency services worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident.
West Shore RCMP has confirmed that the cause of the crash has yet to be determined, but they have ruled out impairment as a factor.
Victoria Buzz has contacted the detachment to inquire if a cause for the crash, such as hydroplaning, has been determined. The current status of the injured drivers has not been released, but we have requested an update.
RCMP are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage from the area between 3:30 and 4:10 p.m. that day to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
