Saanich Police have arrested two individuals after they allegedly fled from officers in a vehicle that had been reported stolen.
The incident occurred on January 28th, when an officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle near the intersection of Burnside Road W and Harriet Street.
Police say the vehicle was driving dangerously, evaded the officer and sped off at a high speed.
Officers opted not to pursue the vehicle after it sped away, but were able to positively identify the driver during their interaction with the suspects.
Saanich Police have been working collaboratively with specialized units since the incident, and as a result of their investigation, have arrested a man and woman who they believe responsible.
“There have been a series of flights from police in our region recently, which posed significant danger to the neighborhoods where they occurred and the responding officers,” said Inspector Damian Kowalewich, Duty Officer.
“We are grateful that no one was harmed by the reckless actions of the two individuals who have been arrested.”
The two suspects, Cayden Blacklaws and Savannah Chase, were brought into custody on Thursday, February 6th, where they remained until their court date, which was scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, February 7th.
In court, Chase was charged with one count of motor vehicle theft, four counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and one count of theft under $5,000.
Meanwhile, Blacklaws has been charged with one count of flight from police and one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance.
