The Victoria Royals have made a massive trade just hours after a decisive victory against the Vancouver Giants.

The Royals have bolstered their forward lineup by acquiring Kenta Isogai from the Wenatchee Wild in exchange for two high-profile prospects and multiple draft picks.

Victoria’s new addition, Kenta Isogai, is having a stellar season with 15 goals and 23 assists in just 28 games so far.

The 20-year-old forward from Nagano, Japan, has proven himself as an offensive powerhouse.

Last season, he led Wenatchee in scoring and was named a US Division First Team All-Star.

With 126 points in 92 career WHL games, Isogai is expected to make an immediate impact for the Royals.

Along with Isogai, the Royals secured a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2027 WHL Draft.

Heading to Wenatchee are:

• Morgan Hackman (2007-born forward), currently playing for the Nanaimo Clippers and committed to Minnesota State for the 2026-27 season

• Nick Koering (2007-born defenceman), who plays in the USHL and is committed to Colorado College for the 2026-27 season

The Wild will also receive:

• A second-round pick in 2025
• A third-round pick in 2027
• A fifth-round pick in 2028

This significant transaction comes with the WHL trade deadline quickly approaching on January 9th. The move shows the Royals’ intention to strengthen their roster for a potential playoff push.

The Royals faced the Vancouver Giants in back-to-back games Tuesday and Wednesday, delivering mixed results.

Tuesday’s New Year’s Eve game ended in a heartbreaking 7-6 shootout loss after the Royals surrendered four third-period goals. However, they rebounded strongly on Wednesday, scoring four goals in the first period and cruising to a 5-2 victory.

The Royals are back in action this Friday, taking on the division-leading Everett Silvertips. With Isogai expected to make his debut soon, fans will be eager to see how the dynamic forward fits into Victoria’s system.

“Kenta is a dynamic player who we feel will come in and make an immediate impact,” said Royals General Manager Jake Heisinger.

“He has shown the ability to be one of the top offensive forwards over his time in the WHL, and we are excited to welcome him to Victoria.”

Make sure to secure your tickets for this Friday’s game for a chance to potentially see the new addition to the team, as well as Everett’s Landon DuPont.
