Great Canadian Entertainment has officially completed the sale of two of its prominent BC casinos to a Vancouver Island First Nation.

Casino Nanaimo and Elements Casino Victoria have been acquired by Petroglyph Development Group Ltd. (PDG).

According to a media release, this marks a milestone for both parties and a significant leap toward economic growth for the Snuneymuxw First Nation.

The acquisitions were initially announced in June and September for Casino Nanaimo and Elements Casino Victoria, respectively.

After receiving all the necessary approvals, the acquisition was closed and PDG, a wholly owned entity of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, took over.

As described in the media release, PDG is focused on advancing the economic opportunities available to the Nation, aiming to generate sustainable wealth for its community and the region.

“We are thrilled to have completed these transactions. An incredible amount of work has been undertaken by our corporate team, our on-site teams at both properties, and PDG to achieve this successful closing,” said Matt Anfinson, Chief Executive Officer of Great Canadian.

“I am grateful for their efforts, as well as everyone at the BC Lottery Corporation and the Gaming Policy Enforcement Branch, who were thoughtful, diligent, and thorough in facilitating these closings.”

A historic step for the Snuneymuxw Nation

For Chief Mike Wyse of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, this acquisition is a long-awaited victory.

“For decades, Snuneymuxw leadership has worked tirelessly toward this moment, recognizing the connection between a strong economy, self-determination, and the foundation of nationhood,” said Wyse.

He added that he looks forward to the partnership with BC Lottery Corporation, as well as the strength and economic growth this will bring the Nation and the province.

PDG’s Vision for Sustainable Growth

Erralyn Joseph, President of PDG, underscored the importance of this acquisition as part of the company’s broader strategy to foster long-term economic stability for the Nation.

Joseph added that PDG’s acquisition of these properties not only strengthens the Nation’s economic influence, but also reaffirms its commitment to building a vibrant, sustainable local economy.

With the transition now complete, both Great Canadian and PDG have expressed their excitement and hope in working together to ensure the ongoing success of the two casinos while fostering economic development for the Snuneymuxw First Nation.

“We look forward to working closely with PDG during the transition period to support the continued successful operation of Casino Nanaimo and Elements Casino Victoria,” Anfinson with Great Canadian concluded.
