Get ready for a thrilling ride, Victoria!
The Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA) is set to present the home-grown sensation Ride The Cyclone, performed by the college’s talented Studio Ensemble.
With direction from award-winning director Jordan Laffrenier, choreography by CCPA alumni Laura Ross, and music direction from Stephanie Sartore, this production promises to be a wild, unforgettable journey!
It will run from Friday, February 7th to Saturday, February 15th at CCPA’s Performance Hall in Oak Bay.
The story takes audiences on a dark, comedic rollercoaster ride. Six teenagers find themselves in limbo, meeting a mysterious fortune teller who gives them a chance to return to Earth, but only if they can tell a story “like no other.”
The show blends music, magic, and mirth—creating a captivating experience that has already charmed audiences worldwide.
Celia Wren of The Washington Post described it as “Ingeniously dark and funny,” a sentiment echoed by Charles Isherwood of The New York Times, who called it “High-spirited and just plain fun from start to finish.”
Ride The Cyclone has made its mark as a must-see, making its way from a world premiere in Victoria to Off-Broadway success and even going viral on TikTok in 2022.
“Ride The Cyclone, is a classic Canadian Musical that has thrilled audiences all over the world, it is an honour to work with the students of CCPA to present the show in the city it was written and the style it was intended,” said Laffrenier.
He added that it’s important to ensure the production process is enjoyable, creating a fun atmosphere for the students, which translates into fun for audiences as well.

First performed in Victoria at Atomic Vaudeville in 2008, Ride The Cyclone has since traveled across Canada and beyond, captivating audiences with its quirky charm and unforgettable music.
After its successful Off-Broadway run in 2016, the show earned several prestigious awards, cementing its status as a modern musical masterpiece.
This production is the first musical of the season for the CCPA, and it also marks the final show for the Studio Ensemble this year—a rigorous performing arts training experience for emerging artists.
This is a show that’s not only a celebration of Canadian talent but a must-see for anyone who loves theatre that’s daring, bold, and full of surprises.
