The Victoria Royals are currently riding a wave of momentum that’s impossible to ignore.
After a string of impressive victories, including back-to-back blowouts against the Kamloops Blazers this weekend, the team is proving they’re not just contenders, but a force reckon with in the WHL.
With a high-powered offence, bolstered by key additions at the trade-deadline and standout performances by core players, the Royals are sitting on top of the BC Division.
As the team prepares to host Hockey Fest this weekend, their play on the ice has fans buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be an unforgettable season.
This Saturday, January 25th, the Victoria Royals are turning up the heat with their inaugural Hockey Fest, a must-attend event that’s sure to bring the whole community together for a day of family fun and thrilling hockey action.
The festivities will begin before the 6:05 p.m. puck drop, as the Royals host the Swift Current Broncos in what will be the only matchup between the two teams this season.
The event will feature exciting pre-game activities from 4 to 6 p.m., including exclusive hockey card giveaways and a fun Kids Zone. Minor hockey organizations can enter a draw to win a practice session with the Royals with each ticket purchased.
Families can also enjoy the special Hockey Skills Competition for kids, hosted by VicPD at Gate 2, where the first 50 participants will receive a free Royals toque.
The best performers from each age group will be invited to show off their skills at the Jr Royals Skills Day on March 14th. As an added bonus, enjoy food and beverage tents, live music by CourtLand from 5:15–6 p.m., and a live stream of the NHL broadcast at the Labatt Beer Garden.
And don’t forget the post-game fun—kids wearing their Minor Hockey Association (MHA) jerseys will be invited to a group photo on the ice, making for an unforgettable experience!
While the Royals are giving fans an unforgettable experience off the ice, they’re also continuing to dominate on it.
Last weekend, the Royals delivered a strong performance with back-to-back wins over the Kamloops Blazers, scoring an impressive 14 goals (7-1 wins both nights). Standout players Cole Reschny and newly acquired Kenta Isogai led the charge.
Reschny contributed two goals and four assists in the two games, marking a stellar return after a brief injury absence.
Isogai also recorded six points (3 goals and 3 assists) over the two games, including his first two goals with the Royals on Friday night since joining the team.
Brandon Lisowsky, who has quickly become a fan favourite since joining the team, scored twice on Saturday, bringing his season total to 30 goals.
Newly acquired goaltender Johnny Hicks also had his first start for Victoria and in the WHL, earning the win in Friday’s 7-1 rout of the Blazers. He stopped 24 of 25 shots.
Leading the BC Division with a 25-12-7 record, the Royals are on a roll. Their recent wins have propelled them to second in the Western Conference and third in the WHL overall.
Following a one-game road trip against the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday, January 24th, the Royals will return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Saturday, January 25th, to take on the Swift Current Broncos.
The combination of Hockey Fest and their current winning streak makes for a can’t-miss night of action. Fans should get their tickets early and be part of the excitement as the Royals continue their march toward a potential playoff run.
