Mary’s Bleue Moon Cafe, located on the cusp of Sidney and North Saanich, will be offering free meals to people who did not get to use their gift cards to Sea Glass Waterfront Grill before its abrupt closure.
On December 28th, Sea Glass announced it would be closing, which was met with mixed feelings by the residents of Sidney.
While many were sad to see the restaurant close, others had recently bought gift cards to the eatery and wanted answers on whether they would be refunded or not.
Additionally, staff members of Sea Glass contacted Victoria Buzz, detailing how the abrupt closure was handled internally.
The owners of the waterfront grill, Zach Vincent and Ann Lockley, let go all their staff with no notice while owing hundreds in unpaid wages and tips.
Former staff members also said that Lockley was selling gift cards right up until the day they closed for good, while knowing the restaurant would be shutting down imminently.
Since the closure, Sea Glass has claimed they would find a way to refund gift cards, but no efforts have been made thus far.

In light of this, Mary’s Bleue Moon has offered a special promotion to try to help their community who were taken advantage of by Sea Glass.
Although Mary’s Bleue Moon is closed temporarily for renovations at the moment, they will be offering free meals for those with Sea Glass gift cards once they reopen.
“We want to start by saying a huge THANK-YOU to all of you for your positive messages, well wishes and support throughout our renovation. We are getting close,” wrote Mary’s Bleue Moon on social media.
“Hold on to your Sea Glass gift cards. When Mary’s is open, we will give one free meal per gift card you bring.”
They are currently hesitant to give a reopening date, but are confident it will be soon and added that they are excited to welcome the community into their space for decades to come once construction is complete.
Mary’s Bleue Moon is just a nine minute drive from Sea Glass Waterfront Grill and is located on Canora Road, near the airport.
The cafe has been around since 1939 and has had many owners since it first opened.
