Get ready to experience Nanaimo in a whole new light this winter!
From Wednesday, January 22nd to Monday, February 17th, the city will be transformed into a dazzling winter festival celebrating art, community and the city’s history.
Luminous Paths: Nanaimo’s 150 & Beyond, is a one-of-a-kind event that will illuminate public spaces across Nanaimo with stunning light installations and immersive art experiences, paying tribute to the city’s past and future.
The festival kicks off from 5 to 9 p.m. on January 22nd with a grand opening ceremony at Maffeo Sutton Park.
Expect an evening full of live performances, interactive booths, and family-friendly activities, all set against a backdrop of brilliant light displays.
Food trucks will be on-site offering a variety of delicious bites, making it a perfect evening for locals and visitors to gather and celebrate.
The festivities will continue for the next four weeks, with the grand finale taking place from 4 to 8 p.m. on February 17th.
The entire city will come alive with creative energy, bringing people together through shared experiences that celebrate Nanaimo’s community spirit.

January 22nd also marks the 150th anniversary of Nanaimo’s first City Council meeting, making the festival an especially meaningful tribute to the city’s growth and evolution over the years.
To spice up the festivities, Luminous Paths will feature the work of several distinguished artists whose creations span a range of artistic practices, from sculpture to interactive installations.
Some of the featured artists include Bailey Macabre (comics, sculpture and beadwork), David Martinello (sculpture), Jenny Smith (multidisciplinary), Mauro Dalla Costa (printmaking and 3D art), and Monkey C Interactive (large public art installations).
The stunning art installations will be complemented by live performances and local musicians, adding another layer of energy to the festival. These performances will take place throughout Nanaimo, adding a musical and theatrical flair to the already vibrant art displays.
