A recent fire in Nanaimo has impacted several men who were going through addictions recovery.
The fire occurred on Friday, January 18th at Nanaimo’s One Life Recovery men’s recovery homes on Seventh Street destroyed the living quarters of six men, who are now sleeping on mattresses in other recoveree’s spaces.
According to One Life Recovery, their insurance policy does not cover the furniture and household items, so they now face the challenge of building back up the resources they once had available to the men in their care.
One Life Recovery is asking the community to consider donating to their cause as they try to navigate the best way to provide treatment with significantly less resources.
“While we are thankful that no one was injured, several of our residents—men who are in the process of rebuilding their lives—have been displaced and left with none or few of their belongings,” said the One Life Recovery team in a social media post.
“We are reaching out to our community for your support. Right now, we need donations to help these individuals get back on their feet and restore some sense of normalcy during this challenging time.”
Specifically, they are asking for food cards to help provide meals, furniture and household items to help re-establish the homes that were lost as well as monetary donations to support the rebuilding of their space.
One Life Recovery says that monetary donations can be made online and physical donations can be arranged via email.
Tax receipts will be provided to those who donate financially.
“Every bit of support counts. Whether you can donate a gift card, gently used furniture, or a financial contribution, your kindness will make an incredible difference,” said One Life Recovery.
