Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian.
The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22nd at the intersection of Departure Bay Road and Wingrove Street.
Police and emergency services arrived on scene and treated the 65-year-old man, who was taken to the Nanaimo hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In speaking with several witnesses, officers say the victim was in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle going south on Departure Bay Road.
The suspect vehicle didn’t stop after the collision.
Police were able to obtain CCTV footage from a nearby residence, and the evidence along with the debris collected suggests the suspect vehicle is a newer model dark coloured SUV.
The vehicle will have damage to the front right corner.
The intersection was closed for several hours while police examined the scene and collected evidence.
