Great news dog owners living in the West Shore area.
Langford’s dog community has a new space to roam with the opening of the city’s latest off-leash dog park that saw a unique partnership between the municipality and Walmart Canada.
The 21,000 sq. ft. fully-fenced area, located adjacent to Walmart, provides a safe and secure spot for dogs of all sizes to exercise, play, and socialize.
“In a Walmart Canada first, the retailer has entered into a license agreement with the City of Langford for an area next to its store to be reimagined as an off-leash dog space for the growing Langford dog-owner community,” read a media release.
Langford funded the installation of fencing, site furniture such as benches and garbage bins, as well as signage and doggy bags. The city will also maintain the space.
“This new space not only allows our four-legged friends to run around freely, but also provides dog owners the chance to meet up with friends and make new connections, fostering a sense of community spirit,” said Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson.
“This is a fantastic example of collaboration between private enterprise and local government working toward the betterment of the community.”
The grand opening celebration, hosted by Councillor Colby Harder, featured remarks from Mayor Goodmanson and local representatives, as well as a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
Dogs Honeybun, Penny, and Inu were among the first to enjoy the park, which opened last week on December 10th.

“We’re excited to be working with the City of Langford to breathe new life into once-unused space and forge deeper connections with Langford residents. The off-leash dog area is a wonderful addition to the Langford community.”
