Fellow nerds unite!

This weekend brings the anticipated return of The Nerdy Days of Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, December 7th and Sunday, December 8th.

Not only does this fair bring together a unique mix of nerdy and fandom-inspired crafts, it also raises money for a fantastic cause—making the mission just as important as its collection of goods.

Over the years, Nerdy Days of Christmas has raised more than $34,000 for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation (VHF), a cause close to the hearts of the organizers.

Every year, they work to give back to the community, and this year’s proceeds will once again support vital services for the Victoria General NICU.

The fair was the brainchild of Candice Woodward, the owner of Cherry Bomb Toys.

During a stay at the hospital to give birth to her son, Woodward struck up a conversation with nurses about fundraising for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and the MS Society.

That’s when she learned about the Victoria Hospitals Foundation and its crucial role in supporting healthcare at local hospitals.

Inspired, Woodward and her husband decided to focus their fundraising efforts on the VHF, creating Nerdy Days of Christmas as a way to raise money for the Victoria General NICU.

Since its inception, the event has grown, evolving from a humble beginning to a beloved tradition that’s now in its 11th year.

The fair has found its home in Market Square since 2017, and though they’ve had some challenges with finding venues and overcoming the limitations of the pandemic, Woodward and all of those involved remain passionate about the mission.

“It’s my favourite event of the year,” said Candice.

“It always showcases an array of nerdy and geeky crafts and art. It is a really fun weekend.”

And the best part? The event is completely donation-based, with all entry fees going directly to the VHF to support children’s healthcare in our local hospitals.

Last year, the fair raised nearly $7,000 in just one weekend—a number Woodward and the team hope to surpass this year.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who has attended and supported us over the years,” she added.

“Victoria Hospitals Foundation is so appreciative of everything we’ve been able to do, and we couldn’t do it without the support of our community.”

So if you’re looking for a way to make a difference while crossing off those holiday shopping lists, don’t miss out on the Nerdy Days of Christmas Craft Fair!
