Instagram famous dog makes the move from Alberta to Vancouver Island

An internet-famous dog with unique facial features has traded the Alberta prairies for the lush landscapes of Vancouver Island.

Brodie, a German shepherd-border collie mix whose unusual face has captured the hearts of millions, is now exploring the island’s scenic trails and beaches with his playmate, Raven.

Brodie’s distinctive appearance—a result of a cranial and facial injury sustained when he was bitten by his mother at two weeks old—has earned him a loyal following online.

With a snout that curves dramatically, a bulging eye, and a tongue that often hangs from his crooked jaw, Brodie is affectionately known as “Best Boy Brodie” by his fans.

His Instagram account boasts over 600,000 followers, and he’s amassed nearly 1.6 million followers across TikTok and Instagram combined.

Amanda Richter, Brodie’s owner, adopted him in January 2020, and he has since brought endless joy and inspiration to her life. Not long after adopting Brodie—Richter welcomed Raven, another rescue dog with a similarly lopsided smile, into their family. The pair’s adventures, documented on social media, continue to captivate audiences worldwide.

After Brodie’s incident with his mom, he was checked out by a vet at the time who thought he would heal normally, but as he got older “things got more twisted and his jaw fused together,” explains his owners on social media post.

“As his skull gets bigger it pulls on his eye socket which is why his one eye is so red and cherried,” the post reads.

“Surprisingly that’s his good eye! His little eye on the stunted side of his face is the one that he is partially blind in.”

Fortunately, the rescue group that Brodie came from – Old Macdonald Kennels in Alberta – ordered a CT scan and the results of his brain scans came back normal.

Earlier this week, Richter shared exciting news on Instagram that she and her beloved pups have made the move to Vancouver Island.

“I don’t think I’ve already told you guys this yet, but me and the pups moved to Vancouver Island!!! We honestly love it here SO much and don’t think we will ever be moving back to Alberta,” she wrote. The move represents a fresh start after what Richter described as a challenging couple of years. “I can truly say me and the pups have never been happier,” she added.

Richter’s post also hinted at a desire to build connections in her new community. “Now that we’re settled in we kind of need to start making friends… so if any of you guys live out here and want to go for a hike or something like that, message me and let’s connect!” she wrote, inviting local followers to join her on adventures.

The internet’s favourite “wonky-faced” dog is now set to charm a whole new audience on Vancouver Island.

Keep an eye on his social media accounts for more updates on his island escapades.
