For many, it’s not always possible to head home for the holidays, which can amplify feelings of loneliness and discomfort.
With this in mind, Hotel Zed wanted to create an inclusive atmosphere where everyone could come together for holiday activities for a festive rendezvous.
So, celebrate the holidays with the hotel crew and other attendees as your ‘extended family’, participating in events such as holiday crafting, festive sing-a-longs, cookie decorating, festive feasts and even pancakes with Santa!
“When I first came to Canada as an immigrant, I felt a bit sad about the holidays because everyone was talking about their families and trips, but I didn’t have a place to go,” Emma Woodward, general manager at Hotel Zed Victoria told Victoria Buzz.
“Last year, we were talking about that and it made me so happy to see that Hotel Zed was launching a cool series of events where anyone, with or without family, get together and enjoy nostalgic holiday activities.”
They kicked off the events with a gingerbread decorating party, and will be throwing a holiday sing-along this weekend—Sunday, December 15th at 2 p.m.
When asked what it means for the hotel to see these events come to fruition, CEO of Hotel Zed and Accent Inns, Mandy Farmer, told Victoria Buzz that their mission as a company made sense for them.
“We consider ourselves a home and a safe space for all rebels to be exactly who they are,” said Farmer.
“It’s only natural that we would become a community for folx [sic] looking for a chosen family to celebrate with.”
The event is free to attend and there’s no requirement to reserve a spot beforehand, all you have to do is show up!
“The holidays are a time of celebration, and we love to celebrate the unique rebels in our hotels,” added Farmer.
“Whether that’s our team, our guests or the community, we’re honoured that they choose to celebrate and create traditions with us.”

This is Hotel Zed Victoria’s inaugural year of holiday events like this, and they hope to make it a new tradition. If you miss this year, there’s always next!
