This past weekend’s storm made good on its warnings, bringing high winds and waters that significantly impacted Sidney’s waterfront.
The storm surge, coupled with high tides, caused closures and left behind a striking scene of damage and debris.
In a rare sight, thousands of logs were pushed ashore, with some being tossed onto pathways and causing damage. The accumulation was so extensive that the Tulista boat launch had to be temporarily closed as crews worked to clear the area.
While much of the waterfront has since reopened, the storm forced the Town of Sidney to issue a public advisory at the peak of the damage.
Due the storm, the southern end of First Street and Second Street near Ocean Avenue was closed due to flooding and debris. The Waterfront Walkway was also closed from Eastview Park through to the end of Lochside Drive.
Photos shared on social media showcased bricks lifted from pathways near Sidney’s Glass Beach and water flooding over key areas, creating a dramatic scene along the shoreline.
As cleanup efforts continue, residents are urged to exercise caution near the water, as debris and unstable surfaces may still pose safety risks. Sidney’s Public Works team is actively working to clear logs, repair damage, and restore full access to the waterfront.
Here are some photos captured by locals that highlight the extent of the damage:
