One person was hospitalized and another arrested following an incident at Royal Oak Shopping Centre in Saanich on Wednesday night.
Saanich Police said they were called to the plaza around 7 p.m. on November 20th after receiving reports of a fight involving a group of individuals.
“When officers arrived, they found that the altercation had already dispersed, and one person involved had left the area,” said a spokesperson for Saanich Police.
Among those who remained, one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital, though they were released shortly afterward.
Police later located and arrested the individual who had fled, just after 11 p.m. The suspect was held in custody overnight and is scheduled to appear in court today.
Saanich Police stated that investigators will be recommending a charge of assault with a weapon.
“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 7:16 p.m. on November 20 regarding a police incident at the Royal Oak Shopping Centre in Saanich. One ambulance with advanced care paramedics and two ambulances with primary care paramedics responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported to hospital,” said Public Information Officer Rachelle Bown
While police did not disclose the weapon used, witnesses reported that the victim was stabbed with a knife, though this has not been officially confirmed.
