Lights and splendour: Christmas returns to Victoria’s iconic Craigdarroch Castle

Share

This December, step back in time and celebrate the festive charm of a Victorian Christmas at Craigdarroch Castle!

The iconic historic site is once again transforming into a winter wonderland, decked out in traditional holiday decorations that capture the spirit of a Victorian Christmas.

From December 1st, visitors can experience a range of exciting events throughout the month, making it the perfect destination to celebrate the season—starting with Museum Store Sunday.

Museum Store Sunday provides visitors around the world the opportunity to support their local museum and cultural institution shops at the beginning of the holiday shopping season.

Find unique gifts from local artisans, take part in product launches, prize draws, special book signings from local authors, and a 10% discount on store items!

Visiting authors include Jean Paetkau, author of The Sinking of Souls, who will be signing books from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by Don Lovell, author of The Dunsmuir Ring – Part One, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Jason Stevens, actor in one-man show ‘A Christmas Carol’ (Craigdarroch Castle)

The festive fun continues with the return of A Christmas Carol, performed by local actor Jason Stevens from December 11th to 20th on select days.

This one-man show brings Charles Dickens’ classic tale to life within the stunning walls of the castle, just as Dickens himself once did during his European and North American tours.

Tickets are $32 plus fees, and the show is recommended for ages 13 and up. For ticket details or to book your seat, visit the Craigdarroch Castle website or call the Visitor Centre at 250-592-5323.

In addition to the performances, Craigdarroch Castle is offering a new series of “Create at the Castle” workshops, led by Sheila Smedley.

These hands-on sessions allow participants to create Victorian-inspired decorations, learn how to make holiday earrings, and explore the rich history of Yuletide traditions.

It’s a perfect opportunity to make something special while embracing the creativity and charm of the Victorian era!

Prices for the workshops range from $50 to $70.

With extended hours throughout December, Craigdarroch Castle is open Wednesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The castle is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly.
