Heads up, waffle lovers!
Earlier this month, TreeHouse Foods and The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) released a recall notice for certain frozen waffle products due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
According to the CFIA, symptoms of this infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
People who are at an increased risk of being impacted are pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
If the infection is severe enough, it can be fatal.
The recalled waffle products were distributed throughout Canada and US, packaged in various formats and brand names.
TreeHouse Foods said the issue was discovered through routine testing at their manufacturing facility, and they advise everyone to check their freezers for these food items.
Brands impacted include Great Value, Compliments, Great Value, Western Family, Selection and no name which are all sold at various grocery stores on Vancouver Island.
If you have one of these products in your freezer, you can check the UPC, lot code and best by date and see if it’s included in the CFIA’s list of recalled products.
You can dispose of the products or return it to the place of purchase for credit.
As of this publication, there haven’t been any reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
