Be prepared if you’re planning to travel this weekend!
BC Ferries released a travel advisory, warning of potential service disruptions due to the predicted harsh weather conditions set for the weekend.
Environment Canada has forecasted high winds for the North Strait of Georgia and North Vancouver Island today, Friday, October 18th, as well as heavy rain.
The southwest winds are expected to reach 70 km/hr with gusting to 90 km/hr, and as a result, multiple ferry routes in these regions may be impacted.
The worst of the winds are expected to develop over the afternoon and then ease overnight.
Additionally, Environment Canada is predicting a heavy amount of rainfall for parts of Vancouver Island that may result in minor coastal flooding, pooling on roads and swollen rivers and creeks.
Locations under rainfall warning include Tofino, Ucluelet, Port Alberni, Bamfield, Port Renfrew, Lake Cowichan, Gold River, Zeballos and Tahsis.
The prolonged heavy rain will start Friday afternoon and continue into Sunday morning.
BC Ferries said they will continue to monitor the weather system and share information as it becomes available.
