‘Toast to the good times’: Little Jumbo closing its doors for good after 40% rent hike

One of downtown Victoria’s most celebrated cocktail spots and eateries, Little Jumbo, has announced they will be closing their doors for good at the end of October.

Little Jumbo, which has been open since 2013, has announced that the increasing costs of running a restaurant are just too expensive to continue.

“We’ve weathered floods, frozen pipes, and a pandemic, but unfortunately, a 40% rent hike and rising costs have made it impossible for us to keep things going,” wrote Little Jumbo’s ownership in an email to its most loyal customers.

“While we’re gutted, we’re choosing to go out on a high note.”

Over the next several weeks, they invite those who have enjoyed the dishes and libations at Little Jumbo to come by for one or more last meals in the space to “toast to the good times” before they shut their doors.

“We’ve had the absolute joy of serving up legendary cocktails, fine food, and countless memories with you all,” they added.

“But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.”

In a situation similar to Little Jumbo’s, Vancouver Island Brewing recently announced they will be shutting down the brewery and tasting room due to a 35% rent hike.
