This past weekend, West Shore RCMP handed out numerous tickets for traffic violations, and even caught a driver who was allegedly drinking an open beer while driving.
At around 11:52 p.m. on August 25th, police officers conducting traffic stops along Ocean Boulevard in Colwood pulled over a 2019 Nissan Frontier pick-up truck.
According to West Shore RCMP, the driver of the vehicle, a 41-year-old man, had an open can of beer in his vehicle.
They added that he attempted to take one last sip before exiting his vehicle to talk to the officer.
He was then detained pending an impaired driving investigation.
According to police, provided samples of his breath into an approved roadside screening device (also known as a breathalyzer) with “fail” results.
His vehicle was then impounded for 30 days and he received a 90-day immediate driving prohibition.
In addition to this infraction, West Shore RCMP officers issued the following tickets this weekend:
- One impaired driving charge
- One excessive speeding ticket – a $483 fine and a seven-day vehicle impound
- Two no insurance tickets – each getting a $698 fine
- One excessive speeding ticket – a $368 fine and a seven-day vehicle impound
- Two impaired driving charges, including the one listed above
Police say that in addition to the above, 17 tickets were issued for various minor traffic offences.
“With the upcoming long weekend, our officers will be out patrolling and checking for sober drivers,” wrote a West Shore RCMP spokesperson in a media release.
“West Shore RCMP would like to remind drivers to please plan for a safe and sober ride home.”
