Chief Constable Del Manak, who has been at the helm of VicPD for seven years, has announced that after another year of service, he will be stepping down from the role.
The Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board (VEPB) says they have extended Manak’s contract until August 31st, 2025.
Additionally, they have sought out a firm to find his replacement.
According to the Police Board, this firm will be seeking nationwide search for a new chief constable who will be suitable to lead VicPD.
“Choosing a new chief constable is one of the most important decisions a Police Board will ever make, and we take this responsibility seriously,” said Micayla Hayes, Chair of the VEPB.
“This is a complicated task, and we will be taking the time to ensure that we make the best selection possible.”
Manak has served as chief since July 2017, after serving as interim chief since January 2016.
By the end of his tenure, VicPD says he will have served a total of nine years and eight months as the chief.
“This is a critical time in the evolution of police services, and the Victoria Police Department faces both unique and general challenges,” said Chief Manak.
“I am proud to continue leading our department and serving our communities as the board takes the time they need to conduct a thorough selection process.”

In order to choose a new chief a process has concluded in which numerous firms applied to be selected for the role of finding a new chief.
According to VicPD, executive search firm Pinton Forrest & Madden Group Inc. (PFM) has been selected.
“We were impressed by the proposal that PFM submitted, and their clear demonstration of understanding of both the communities we serve,” said Hayes.
“We have full confidence that they will conduct an exhaustive nationwide process and ensure that we find the best fit for Victoria and Esquimalt.”
VicPD says updates on the selection process will be available as the process unfolds, throughout the next year.
