Oak Bay Police say a motorist who crashed into a parked vehicle last week blamed the local fire hall for being too distracting.
Police say an officer was departing the station when they observed a vehicle travelling southbound on Monterey Avenue had collided with a car parked along the street.
“The driver stated that he was distracted by the Fire Department and drove into the parked vehicle,” said Oak Bay Police in a media release.
According to police, the 70-year-old man was uninjured and was issued a ticket for driving without due care.
This mishap will cost the man $368.
Police say both vehicles were towed from the scene as they sustained heavy damage.
In addition to this bizarre crash, Oak Bay Police say their officers issued several other traffic-related tickets through the week.
Notably, officers gave out at least two tickets to drivers whose insurance had either expired or was invalid.
One 20-year-old was pulled over and officers determined his insurance had expired just three days prior.
He was issued a ticket for $598 and his vehicle was towed at his expense, according to Oak Bay Police.
Additionally, a 49-year-old man was issued the same ticket, costing him $598 for driving without insurance since March.
Police say he was pulled over for speeding on Beach Drive and was given an additional ticket for $138 because of this.
His vehicle was also towed at his own expense.
