24-year-old suspect arrested after man stabbed in the throat: Port Alberni RCMP

One person has been arrested after a stabbing incident in Port Alberni earlier this week.

At around 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27th, a stabbing incident occurred at a residence in the 4000 block of Maitland Street.

Port Alberni RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting that a man had been stabbed in the throat by an individual known to him.

Emergency services quickly transported the victim to West Coast General Hospital (WCGH).

Initially, a helicopter was requested to airlift the victim to a different hospital for emergency surgery. However, WCGH’s emergency staff managed to stabilize the victim and provide life-saving treatment locally.

Police said the victim is currently in stable condition.

Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered that the suspect had fled on foot. RCMP deployed additional resources and Forensic Identification Services (FIS) conducted an examination of the area.

The suspect was tracked and apprehended the following morning without incident.

Port Alberni RCMP have stated that there are no public safety concerns related to this case, as the victim and suspect are known to each other and the circumstances of the incident are understood.

RCMP requested that the court remand the suspect in custody while their investigation continues. A court hearing was held on August 2th, where the 24-year-old suspect was remanded in custody.

A further court appearance is scheduled for September 3rd.
