Here’s what a ‘Screamer’ frozen treat is and where you can get one in Victoria

Share

Half ice cream, half slushie, it’s no wonder this concoction has become a customer favourite across the country, and possibly other corners of the world too!

Although the exact origin of the Screamer treat remains unclear, it is believed to have stemmed from Prince George, where they were first sold in Mr. G convenience stores.

In fact, Mr. G posters from as early as 1989 have been found with an already-established ‘Famous Screamer’ for sale, priced at 79 cents!

The majority of Mr. G convenience stores haven’t existed for quite some time, having been bought by 7-Eleven, but to everyone’s surprise and delight, the chain decided to keep Screamers in-store due to popular community demand.

Since the early days of Mr. G, other businesses have began offering the iconic Screamer treat too, and to make your hunt easier, we’ve compiled a small list derived from readers’ input and our own research.

Without further ado, here are 4 places in and around Victoria where you can get your hands on a Screamer:

Circle K

Known as the ‘Froster Swirl’ at Circle K rather than ‘Screamer’, all locations across Western Canada offer their very own flavours of slushie (or Froster) to accompany the creamy soft-serve ice cream.
