An investigation is underway after a man allegedly punched a municipal worker in the face and then threatened other workers with a knife last Friday.

On July 26th, police said they were called to the 2400 block of Esplanade Road in response to reports of an assault.

When police arrived, they found a man and Oak Bay municipal workers “engaged in a heated verbal dispute.”

In a media release, Oak Bay Police stated that the workers allege the man had broken the mirror on a District vehicle, punched one worker in the face, and then threatened others with a knife.

The man was arrested for assault, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5000, and uttering threats.

He was released with conditions to stay away from any Oak Bay Park, to remain at least 50 metres away from any Oak Bay municipal worker or vehicle, and to attend court in September.

“This matter is still under investigation and the suspect is presumed innocent
unless proven guilty in court,” said Oak Bay Police in their release.
