The Town of Sidney is mourning the loss of a beloved community member.

On July 7th, the family of Scott Keanie, owner of Scotty’s Dog Shack on Beacon Avenue, released a statement on Facebook informing the community that he had suffered a serious heart attack and the storefront would be closed until further notice.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce Scotty has suffered a major heart attack, which has left him in critical condition. As a result, we will be temporarily closed until further notice. We appreciate your understanding and support during this very difficult time,” said the family in their Facebook post.

Following that announcement, community members left messages of encouragement for Scott and his family and shared positive stories of their visits to the shop.

“I don’t know you personally, Scotty, but you sure have left me with an impression of a fun, loving guy, full of energy and smiles for the whole Town of Sidney! It’s folks like you, who exude happiness and kindness, that make this place so wonderful! You got this, get better real soon,” read one comment.

On Monday, July 15th, Keanie’s daughter Chelsea made another post to inform the community that Keanie had died as a result of the heart attack he suffered on July 4th.

“Scott was the heart and soul of our community whose vibrant spirit, boundless charisma, and genuine warmth left an incredible mark on everyone he met,” the Facebook post reads.

“He found joy in creating music with his band, being out on the water, connecting with his community through his restaurants and, above all, adoring his grandchildren.”

Prior to Keanie’s passing, a GoFundMe page was started with a goal of $15,000 to support the family. $14,635 had been raised as of this publication.

“His absence leaves a profound void in all our hearts and in the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him… whether it was lifelong friendships or just a quick stop for a hot dog.”

The family will release details in the future as to when Scotty’s Dog Shack will reopen in Scott’s memory.
