Spectators, racers and curious onlookers, all eyes on the Gorge!
The South Island Dragon Boat Festival is to host over 700 athletes over a two-day race along the Selkirk Waterway near Jutland Road in recognition of victims of Breast Cancer.
From Saturday, July 13th until Sunday, July 14th, Vancouver Island residents and visitors are invited to witness the lively and impressive boat races, as well as participate in the festivities to follow.
There will be a beer tent, retail and craft vendors and food vendors available on both days—cheer on your chosen teams and stay refreshed during and after!
Race courses include 500 metre heats, semis and finals, 250 metre flag relays, 1500 metre guts and glory races.
On Sunday, there will be the semi-finals and finals, and at 12:20 p.m., the Breast Cancer Survivor Challenge races, followed by a ceremony over the lunch hour.

Usually known as the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival and held in Nanaimo, the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club offered to host in order to cut operation costs and keep the festival afloat for years to come.
It has been temporarily branded as the South Island Dragon Boat Festival and hosts a variety of athletes with broad western representation—including teams from BC’s lower mainland, Alberta, Oregon, Washington State, as well as from Vancouver Island.
The Fairway Gorge Paddling Club is also to host the Vancouver Island Dragon Boat Festival in late-August, so stay tuned for that!
