Victoria has captured the attention of Canadian travellers, earning the 8th spot in KAYAK’s list of top domestic travel destinations for the summer of 2024.

On Wednesday, KAYAK, a travel search engine, released its list of the top 10 most-searched for cities by domestic travellers in Canada.

While domestic flights have seen a 9% increase in cost compared to last summer, Canadians are still choosing to explore their own country.

This year, three major cities in British Columbia ranked in the top 10 list of most popular destinations in Canada: Vancouver (2nd), Victoria (8th), and Kelowna (9th).

Victoria ranked as the eighth-most searched city in Canada for domestic travellers, and had the second-highest average airfare, trailing only Kelowna.

The average airfare to Victoria was $499, compared to Kelowna’s at $513.

The lowest airfare on the list was for Toronto, at $366. Toronto was the third most-searched location on the list, just after Calgary in first and Vancouver in second place.

KAYAK created its list by analyzing searches on its site from November 1st, 2023, to March 15th, 2024, for flights in Canada scheduled between May 17th and September 9th.

KAYAK compared there data with the same time frame from the previous year and calculated average flight prices based on round-trip economy class fares to each of the top 10 cities, departing from various locations across Canada.

“We’re pleased, but maybe not surprised by the most popular cities this season,” said KAYAK in a media release.

Internationally, the top five cities Canadians are most interested in visiting this summer, in order of popularity, are London, England; Paris, France; Tokyo, Japan; Rome, Italy; and Lisbon, Portugal.

These were the most-searched Canadian destinations by domestic travellers for the summer along with average ticket price:
