The Highland Games return to Victoria this May long weekend for their 161st year

Looking to liven up your May long weekend?—welcome to the 161st annual Highland Games!

This is the longest continually running Highland Games & Celtic Festival in North America, and it will take place on Saturday, May 18th and Sunday, May 19th at Topaz Park.

From near and far, attendees gather in anticipation of the rich mix of family-friendly entertainment and activities in celebration of Scottish and Celtic arts and culture!

Featured events include pipe band competitions, Scottish Highland dancing competitions, Heavy Events, Scottish country dancing, fiddling performances, Scottish/Celtic and folk music bands and more.

The International Heavy Events Challenge is a sought-after spectacle, showcasing individuals from all over the world as they participate in feats of strength, such as caber toss and hammer throw!

Another returning event includes the Canadian Invitational Drum Major Championship, with a full line-up of current and previous world and national champions.

The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band will be in attendance—come to witness the best pipes in North America as they compete on both Saturday and Sunday!

In addition to the performance entertainment, guests will also be able to check out Scottish Clan and genealogy booths and displays, historic military demonstrations and displays, Scottish/Celtic food and merchandise vendors.

If you’re 19-years-old or over, there’s also a Single Malt Whisky School and a Wine Tasting School to add something special to your Highland Games experience. 

Plus, they’re working on introducing a Gin Tasting School, so stay tuned for that!

Bringing the family? Tickets are free for children 12 and under and there is a large free entertainment area for the kids!

Tickets for adults, seniors and youth come in weekend or day-passes and those can be purchased via Eventbrite.
