Oak Bay Police caught a driver traveling nearly triple the posted speed limit last week.
On Saturday, May 11th at around 7:44 p.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Beach Drive near Newport Avenue.
The officer spotted a northbound vehicle and suspected it to be going well above the posted speed limit of 40 km/hr.
Indeed, the vehicle was clocked at 161 km/hr and a traffic stop was conducted—just under triple the speed limit.
The driver was identified to be a 32-year-old man, and was issued a violation ticket for excessive speeding with a fine of $483.
His vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.
Earlier in the week, in the same area of Beach Drive near Newport Avenue, another driver was caught speeding.
On Thursday, May 9th at 5:20 p.m., the officer heard a loud engine roaring and observed a northbound vehicle approaching, going well above the speed limit.
The vehicle was traveling at 96 km/hr in the 40 km/hr zone, and a traffic stop was conducted.
The driver was identified as a 19-year-old man with a novice driver’s licence. The teen was issued a ticket for excessive speeding, and his vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.
