While details are slim, Shawnigan Lake RCMP confirmed they are investigating a suspicious fire at a lodge in Mill Bay.

The blaze occurred in the early morning hours on November 12th.

In a media release, Shawnigan Lake RCMP said they responded to a suspicious fire just before 2 a.m., at the Freemason Lodge No. 107 on Lashburn Road in Mill Bay.

According to police, investigators examined the scene and discovered evidence that raised suspicions as to the nature of the fire.

“First trucks arrived on scene within 9 minutes of the page (from bed) and initiated fire knock down of an interior fire located in the alpha/delta corner first floor,” said Mill Bay Fire Rescue in a Facebook.

Soon after extinguishing the initial fire, it became apparent that the flames had spread beyond the first floor. Due to the building’s construction, the fire had advanced through the wall stud space, making its way up into the attic.

“With water application into a gable end vent using the deck gun on Engine74 the fire in the attic was contained while crews worked to gain access into the attic and wall spaces to complete fire extinguishment,” read the post.

Shawnigan Lake Fire provided assistance with an engine and crew to allow crews to rest and rehab until the fire was fully knocked down.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-5514.
