A wildfire in Port Alberni over the weekend is believed to be human-caused.
At around 6 p.m. Sunday, July 16th, Port Alberni Fire Department were received multiple reports of a fire near Dry Creek and 16th Avenue.
Smoke from the fire could be seen for kilometers.
Firefighters from Port Alberni, Cherry Creek, Beaver Creek and Sproat Lake fire departments responded to the blaze.
Updates were provide throughout the the evening on social media and after several hours of battling the blaze, the fire grew to about one hectare in size before it was contained.
No structures were threatened by the fire but at one point it was within a 1,000 feet of a property.
Firefighters remained on scene overnight to ensure no hotspots flared up and sprinklers were setup in the area on Monday.
While the cause of the fire is being investigated, BC Wildfire believe it to be human-caused.
