Our Place Society hosts ‘Handsome Day’ for men facing difficult times ahead of Father’s Day

We know that looking our best can make us feel our best, but for those struggling and living in poverty, this isn’t always a priority—or even possible.

On Friday, June 16th, Our Place Society will be hosting a “Handsome Day” to celebrate all male-identifying individuals who want a little boost.

Erin, the main organizer, feels especially passionate about giving back in this meaningful way. She began her journey as an Our Place family member and has now been working with Our Place for a long time — continuing to spread her awareness and support to all that need it.

“[Erin] is really the incentive behind it and we have several staff supports [too],” said Grant McKenzie, Our Place’s Director of Communications.

Because of Covid, he mentioned that it’s been a couple of years since they’ve organized events like this. But after the successful women’s pampering day around Valentine’s Day, Our Place wanted to do something for the men too.

“They like to be pampered too,” he said, stating that he hopes for it to be an annual event around Father’s Day to honour the celebration of men everywhere — not limited to fathers.

As McKenzie described, their mission for this event is to deliver a positive experience of every man’s value and self-worth and to provide these men with a safe space, free of judgment.

“Everybody deserves this respect and dignity.”

Though it’s difficult to guess exact numbers, McKenzie said they’ll be expecting around 30 men.

On site will be volunteer stylists from The Natural Hair Salon giving haircuts, beard cuts, and more! They’ll have little gift bags full of handsomeness products and self care products, too.
