Cyclist has long road to recovery after being struck by vehicle in downtown Victoria

A cyclist suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after a collision involving a vehicle on their Monday morning commute near the Rock Bay area. 

In a media release, VicPD said they are investigating the collision that occurred just before 7:45 a.m. on February 6th at the intersection of Government Street and Bay Street.

According to police, paramedics were on the scene shortly after the collision took place to provide emergency treatment to the downed cyclist. 

The cyclist was then transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police say despite the severity of the cyclist’s injuries, they will be facing a long recovery period. 

The intersection was temporarily closed through Monday morning as investigators gathered evidence from the scene.

Police say this investigation is in its early stages and remains ongoing.
