Senior Campbell River security guard stabbed twice trying to stop theft at Walmart

A Walmart security guard in his 60s suffered serious injuries after being stabbed multiple times in Campbell River Tuesday.

The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on December 7th, at the Campbell River Walmart along the Island Highway.

According to RCMP, the attacker tried to disguise himself by wearing a purple wig, with a medical mask covering his face.

The suspect left the store with a large quantity of unpaid goods and when approached by store security, he stabbed the guard, a man in his 60s, at least twice.

Police arrested a man in his 30s shortly after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7th.

The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues and is scheduled to appear in court today.

The security guard was transported to hospital in serious, but stable condition.
