The BC Ministry of Health reported 696 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, October 20th.
There have been 199,534 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
New cases were reported in these health regions:
- Vancouver Coastal Health: 76
- Fraser Health: 252
- Island Health: 59
- Interior Health: 118
- Northern Health: 191
- Resident outside Canada: 0
There are currently 4,888 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
192,189 people who tested positive have recovered.
There are now a total of 370 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 139 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.
6 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll 2,092.
Outbreaks
There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at Swedish Assisted Living Residence (Fraser Health), for a total of 24 active outbreaks, including one in the Island Health region at the Tofino General Hospital.
Island Health:
There were 59 new COVID-19 cases in the Island Health region today. According to Island Health, there are 413 active cases in the region, while BCCDC are reporting 517.
- South Vancouver Island Active cases: 172│Total Cases: 4,247
- Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 205│ Total Cases: 4,492
- North Vancouver Island Active cases: 36│Total Cases: 1,227
- 52 people remain in hospital with 25 in ICU
There were no new deaths in the Island Health region since yesterday, there have been a total of 84 deaths on Vancouver Island have been recorded since the pandemic began.
Vaccinations
As of Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, 89.3% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.6% received their second dose.
In addition, 89.7% of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 84.3% received their second dose.
To date, 8,088,314 (+14,637) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 3,876,579 (+5,870) of which are second doses.
