Two people arrested in connection with identity theft and fraud on Vancouver Island

Oceanside RCMP arrested two people in connection with identity theft and fraud.

On April 27th, police began investigating a case of identity theft and fraud based on a description of a suspect’s car and license plate number.

Officers located the suspect’s vehicle parked in front of a hotel in Qualicum Beach and began surveillance.

Additional surveillance and investigation was established once the suspect’s identity was confirmed, and a subsequent search warrant was granted.

Officers searched the hotel room, the suspect was fraudulently renting under an alias and arrested.

A 40-year old man and a 25-year old woman were arrested in connection with the incident.

In the hotel room, police found a large quantity of physical and digital evidence that suggests the suspects were fabricating identifications and involved in identity theft and other fraudulent activities.

Police also recovered several legitimate ID’s of several victims.
Both suspects have since been released with a promise to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court.

Officers continue to comb through a significant quantity of evidence and further fraud related charges are anticipated.
