Ball python that went missing in Victoria earlier this month is on the loose again

Here’s one animal that was born to be wild.

The 4.5 foot long ball python (or Royal python) that went missing for over a month in Victoria before being found on August 12 has gone missing once again.

The snake was reported missing to police on Wednesday, August 19.

Saanich Police have confirmed that the snake escaped from its owner, a person with no fixed address, who was sleeping outside in the 800-block of Snowdrop Ave.

The python managed to slither out of their backpack and is now presumed to be missing in the Marigold neighbourhood of Saanich.

“As the Ball Python normally habitats in grasslands and shrub lands, it is possible the snake has made its way to such an area in Saanich,” reads a statement from police.

“It could also be very close to the area it was lost, as ball pythons are not very active.”

Although ball pythons are not poisonous, residents in the area are asked to be cautious and contact police if they see the animal.

“Is the manner in which the snake is being housed, and transported, appropriate? These are certainly questions we will seek expert advice on if the snake is located,” said S/Sgt. Chris Horsley in a statement to Victoria Buzz.

“We want to ensure the snake is being cared for appropriately, as we would any other pet.”

The python first went missing on July 2 and was on the lam for six weeks before it was located on August 12, three kilometres from where it first went missing.

Anyone who sees the snake can contact Saanich Police at (250) 475-4321.
