Fire engulfs top floor of Esquimalt apartment building

A four-alarm fire currently has emergency crews battling in what appears to be a fully engulfed 4th floor of an apartment building in the 800-block of Craigflower Road in Esquimalt Sunday afternoon. Craigflower Road is closed as efforts are ongoing.

Multiple calls of thick black smoke in the area had first responders arriving to the scene at approximately 4 p.m., where crews are currently working to extinguish the blaze.

Esquimalt, CFB Esquimalt, Victoria and View Royal Fire have been dispatched, and Victoria Police and Ambulance have been requested.

Multiple people are reported to be trapped inside the burning building, and there are also unconfirmed reports of fatalities.
