Share

The ninth annual Social Media Camp is coming up on May 2 and 3 at the Victoria Conference Centre, and this year’s edition promises more opportunities to network, learn, and improve your “social” presence than ever!

With a stellar lineup of speakers, workshops, and roundtables, the conference promises something for everyone, whether you’re running a small business, looking to up your company’s game, or simply want to increase your own online presence.

Here are just a few of the reasons you need to check out this year’s event!

1 – Learn how to distinguish bots from real people

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a whole lot of news about the influence of bots on social media platforms. Luckily, Social Media Camp has a speaker to address just that topic!

On Thursday, May 3, John F. Gray, the CEO/Co-Founder of Mentionmapp Analytics Inc. will be doing a talk on “The Ecosystem of Fake and Social Bots”.

Gray is a social media researcher and reporter focusing on the interactions between real people, bots, sockpuppets, and trolls.

John’s main consideration is how misinformation is impacting our socio-political discourse, and how cyberspace is becoming a less human place. He’s co-authored “The Ecosystem of Fake: Bots, Information, and Distorted Realities.”

His talk is just one of many that will help immensely for anyone dealing with the current online climate.

2 – Hone Your Online Storytelling

On Wednesday, May 2, Christoph Trappe, the Director of Content Marketing at MedTouch, will share how organizations can get past lame and boring content and instead tell unique and authentic stories with his keynote speech “How to Create Stories That People Want to Consume and Share“.

An author and global storytelling coach, Trappe has a proven framework that can help any organization figure out its uniqueness factor and help them tell relevant stories across a variety of channels.

Similar talks include Jordan Bower’s “Big-S Storytelling: How to inspire your audience by leading them to the Promised Land,” and Fi Birch’s “Why the Truth is the Best Story You Have – Even When It Isn’t

3 – Learn from Successful Social Media Managers

One of the other big name speakers at this event will be Marc Babin, the Social Media Manager at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa.

Babin will speak on “Converting $5,000 in Facebook Ads Into $170,000 in Revenue with One Change,” which will make for a fantastic opportunity to learn how to use Facebook’s marketing tools to their best capabilities.

He is an active supporter of shaking traditional hospitality marketing though social storytelling and brand ‘personality’.

Marc launched the first hospitality periscope live stream from the Westin Grand Cayman and has been leading the social industry ever since.

4 – One-on-One Coaching

Upon arrival, a team of Social Media Camp coaches will be available to provide you with a guided tour of the conference agenda.

With their help, you’ll be able to find the sessions that are most relevant to you and ensure that you get the most out of your Social Media Camp experience.
