The lockdown at Esquimalt High School has been lifted but the search for a robbery suspect continues.

The school was placed on a lockdown at around noon Monday, after a female student was robbed at knife point on Carrie Street, between Colville Road and Craigflower, in Esquimalt.

Victoria West Elementary School was placed in a hold-and-secure mode as a precaution.

VicPD are searching for a suspect described as a First Nations man with short dark hair. He was wearing a black sweater, blue jeans, had a bandana with red flames.

The student was not injured. The suspect got away with her backpack
