In case you hadn’t heard, the Toronto Raptors were in town this week, kicking off their preseason at the University of Victoria.
After a lot of hype, several closed training sessions, and a youth basketball clinic, Canada’s lone NBA team finally made a public appearance with a scrimmage on Thursday night.
2700 fans from across Vancouver Island packed UVic’s CARSA gymnasium on September 28 to watch the “Black team” defeat the “Gray team” 89-63.
Not only was the event a great chance to get a rare glimpse of NBA stars, it also raised over $85,000 for the Golf for Kids Charity Classic.
“No other team has an entire country as a fan base. The great enthusiasm got our players’ juices going,” Raptors head coach Dwane Casey said after the game.
