Helps Apologizes About Little Consultation On Tent City

Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps offered a public apology this morning on Cfax1070 for the lack of consultation with neighbours, about the proposal to allow a cluster of temporary homeless shelters in Topaz Park. City Hall has been under severe criticism, and the mayor says she and council are listening. “We have been talking about it for months…it’s been on the public agenda for months…Topas has been mentioned for months. Um, but until we’ve made a decision to do something, um, we didn’t engage residents, and that’s probably not best practice.” Helps insists the Topaz decision is not final. Coucil did vote to allow a so-called “tent city” somewhere, and Topaz is a recommended location
