One person has died following Thursday’s crash on the Trans Canada Highway in Saanich, which police say was likely caused by a medical event.
The crash happened on October 2nd in the 1100-block of the northbound lanes.
Emergency crews closed the highway between McKenzie Avenue and Helmcken Road for several hours while investigators worked at the scene.
Police say they do not believe impairment or speed were factors in the crash.
The subsequent closure of the highway’s northbound lanes between Tillicum and Helmcken roads caused region-wide traffic chaos, with gridlock reported as far south as downtown Victoria.
