Denman Island Pottery Tour returning for its 35th year on Victoria Day long weekend

Share

If you’re looking for an excuse to go on a road trip, this may be it!

The 35th annual Denman Island Pottery Studio Tour is a combination of adventure, art and a treasure hunt for both pottery lovers and supporters of the arts.

It will take place over Victoria Day long weekend, Saturday, May 18th and Sunday, May 19th, and is a free, self-guided tour.

Attendees will get to dive behind the scenes and take a look at where the art happens, providing both an opportunity to meet the artists as well as learn about their techniques and processes.

Plus, you’ll get to explore the stunning landscapes and coastal views of Denman Island during what we hope to be a beautiful long weekend!

This year, eight studio locations and nine potters are featured, all showcasing a variety of poetry styles—including wheel thrown, hand-built and sculptural work, funky decor and museum-quality pieces.

Well-known Denman potters include Tom Dennis and Gordon Hutchens, who have been a part of this tour since the very beginning.

Other potters include Lilac Sun Pottery, Sandra Shaffer, Ember Blair Hutchens, Gilden Petunia Pottery, Raucous Raven Pottery and Linda Adair.

Organizers recommend taking the opportunity to wander around the entirety of the island and visit other unique Denman spots—such as The Earth Club Factory Bistro & Guesthouse for coffee, snacks or lunch, Abraxas Books, Corlan Vineyard, Saturday Farmers Market and more.

Denman Island is a 10-minute ferry ride from Buckley Bay, located between Qualicum and Courtenay on the seaside route, or Exit 101 from the Inland Highway 19.

If you wish to learn more about each artist and their work, you can visit the Denman Island Pottery Studio Tour website

There are downloadable maps and physical maps will also be available at the Buckley Bay ferry booth and other shops around the island.
