Two dogs suspected of killing at least two dozen sheep and a deer have been seized in North Cowichan.
The municipality released information about the incident, stating that the dogs were identified as potentially responsible for the deaths on neighbouring farms and properties in late March.
On March 29th, it is believed the pair of dogs entered a farm property and attacked a flock of sheep, resulting in the death of several animals.
Later the same day, the dogs attacked another farm property, killing several mature-aged sheep.
Additionally, a pregnant deer was attacked and killed in a nearby area.
A warrant was approved, and on April 17th, an Animal Control officer, two North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP officers, and two North Cowichan Bylaw team members seized the two dogs.
The animals are being held while investigations and legal processes continue, the municipality said.
“A number of measures are under consideration including the levying of fines and other charges, subject to the completion of the investigation and subsequent legal processes,” read a statement from the municipality.
