Discovery of dead body near Parksville prompts investigation by police watchdog

Share

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO) is currently probing the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a deceased man in Parksville.

On March 24th, RCMP were called around 12:05 p.m. after someone saw a man laying in the brush away from a marked trail near Little Mountain, south of Parksville.

Upon arrival, RCMP officers conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the individual.

The next day, around 11:12 a.m., the same individual who had made the initial call revisited the area and stumbled upon the man’s body in the same location as reported earlier, while walking along a hiking trail.

Upon confirmation of the man’s death by police and paramedics, the IIO were notified and has since initiated an investigation.

The investigation will look into details surrounding the initial police search, determine the cause of the man’s death, and assess whether any police actions or inactions may have played a role.

The IIO urges anyone with pertinent information regarding the incident, including video footage, to reach out to the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or through the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
